This is my version of the programmer by Klaus Leidinger - http://www.mikrocontroller-projekte.de/ you will find a huge amount of information about the programmer on this website so I am just going to limit myself to my Eagle files for the schematic and the PCB layout that I used.
You should look in the "/AVR Projects/AVR ISP Note 910" folder.
The boards is single sided and just has a couple of wire links. I made three main changes to the schematic:
- using a single red/green bicolour LED
- a RS232 chip rather than discrete components for the level shifter
- ATMEL 6 pin ISP header layout albeit using a 10 pin box header connector
